A lot of whale and dolphin excursions leave from Los Gigantes harbour located on the west coast of Tenerife. We arrived via Santiago Del Teide that is actually on the side of Mount Teide – A large volcano in the centre of the island. The first thing you notice as you drive into Santiago del Teide is the sheer, massive cliffs which give Los Gigantes it’s name; translated into English it means ‘the gigantics.’ And it’s not difficult to see why they are named that!
The road down towards Los Gigantes harbour meanders through villas, residential urbanizations with a plethora of Bars and Restaurants and Hotels. Initially it seems like a traditional Spanish village as you can see the remnants of old buildings and churches that were here before the tourist boom of the ‘70s.
Another point to note is the extent of development up smoother parts on the land before the cliffs start – some of the apartments are bordering near vertical!
Water is crucial for a day out on the boat
Plethora of choice for trips
