The Canary Island of Tenerife
lies on the degree of longitude and latitude 28:16, between sub
tropical and temperate zones. In climatic terms this means that
it benefits from a year round temperate climate, due to the Canaries
cold stream and refreshing Trade Winds and does not experience
mass fluxes in temperature. Due to its spring like feeling it’s often referred to as the island
of ‘Eternal Spring.’
The survey suggested that for those who are considering moving
and buying property overseas, especially for retirement, the key
considerations include; availability of good health care, social
provision, but over all being in a country that has easy access
for family and friends. There is no better a place than Tenerife
to meet those criteria and more!
Tenerife has two major airports, one in the North and Reina Sofia
in the south. The south airport is 20 minutes from the main resorts
of Playa de Las Americas, Los Cristianos and the newer areas such
as residential Palm Mar and the recent developments in Fanabe and
Adeje.
Flying time is around 4 hours
from the UK and Reina Sofia receives flights from all the major
regional airports and European hubs, with many service providers
increasing flights, especially during the summer months.
When you
are considering buying a property here in Tenerife initially you
have to decide ‘Is it fit for purpose?’ i.e. who
will be living there? – is it just yourselves or will family
and friends come and stay, as this determines the number of bedrooms
that you will require. Is it just for holidaying? Will you be driving,
if not you will need to be close to amenities and close to good
transport links. All of these minor decisions need to be thought
about, to ensure you choose the right property and correct area.
A young family with children who spend the school holidays here
will have different needs and wants to a middle aged couple who
have retired early and play golf three times a week.
Nestled in the Atlantic Ocean, just off
the coast of Africa there is an abundance of things to see and
do in Tenerife. It’s
an island of contrasts -sea, surf and sangria to historic architecture,
championship golf courses and cosmopolitan gastronomic delights.
Tenerife’s centrepiece is Spain’s
highest mountain, standing at 3,718 metres, volcanic Mount Teide
presides over the island, surrounded by a fragrant pine forest
- the Mount Teide National Park. As you leave the snow capped
mountain tops the landscape dramatically changes, leaving behind
volcanic red rock, moving through exotic green woodlands, valleys
covered in banana plantations to sea level with secret bays,
volcanic black sand and long golden beaches. Tenerife boasts
beautiful beaches, many man-made, 7 beaches have been awarded
blue flags for their facilities and cleanliness.
If lazing on a beach isn’t your
cup of tea then Tenerife is full of magnificent championship
golf courses, modern marinas and ideal places to be pampered.
A growing area in terms of tourism, the Eternal Spring Island
has a large number of spas together with health and beauty centres
for you to take advantage of the latest mind and body treatments.
You can play golf here 365 days
a year unlike the UK; Tenerife is definitely a golfer’s dream.
The high quality courses blend perfectly with the natural environment
each one possessing its own natural obstacles, be it deep gullies,
native vegetation or the ocean itself – a suitable challenge
for golfers of all levels.
Tenerife has
something for everyone, activities such as diving, cycling, fishing
to, in contrast, walking, historical heritage and the arts. Your
friends and family will enjoy Tenerife it is just a wonderful place
to live.
